Briskfil Solution
Nitrogen + treated compressed air
Two critical processes, one standard of excellence
OCRAM Clima manufactures air handling units with rigorous quality control at every stage. Two processes in their production depended directly on the quality of the gases and air used: laser cutting of metal components and electrostatic painting of those same components.
In laser cutting, the company sought a flawless finish for parts with high aesthetic and technical standards—which requires high-purity nitrogen, capable of eliminating oxidation at the cutting edge.
In the electrostatic painting booth, any trace of moisture or oil in the compressed air compromises the adhesion and durability of the coating, generating paint defects and rework. Contaminant-free air was required, in compliance with process requirements.
Two integrated solutions, supplied by Briskfil
Briskfil designed and implemented a combined solution, tailored to OCRAM Clima’s two processes: nitrogen generation for laser cutting and compressed air treatment for electrostatic painting.
Ready to optimize your installation?
High-purity nitrogen
Supply of high-purity nitrogen dedicated to laser cutting, ensuring a clean, precise, oxidation-free finish on the metal components of air handling units.
Treated compressed air
Compressed air treatment system in the painting booth, with complete elimination of contaminants, moisture, and oils, to ensure coating adhesion and durability.
High-purity nitrogen
High-purity assist gas for laser cutting, designed to meet the finish level required by OCRAM Clima.
Clean, oxidation-free cuts
By eliminating oxygen, nitrogen prevents reactions with the heated metal, resulting in clean, precise, defect-free edges.
From cutting to painting: two processes, the same logic
In laser cutting, the assist gas defines the quality of the edge. Nitrogen is the gas of choice for cutting stainless steel and other metals because it is inert: by expelling oxygen from the cutting zone, it prevents oxidation of the heated metal. The result is clean, precise edges without the dark oxide layer typical of oxygen cutting—essential for visible components that demand a high aesthetic standard.
For OCRAM Clima, whose air handling units combine technical requirements and finish quality, this cutting cleanliness translates into less rework and parts ready for the next production stage.
In electrostatic painting, compressed air is the vehicle for the coating, and any trace of moisture or oil carried to the part compromises adhesion and opens the door to defects. Compressed air treatment, with proper drying and filtration, eliminates these contaminants and ensures uniform, adherent, durable painting.
By supplying both solutions in an integrated manner—nitrogen for cutting and treated air for painting—Briskfil reinforced OCRAM Clima’s commitment to efficiency, sustainability, and finish excellence, with a single technical partner responsible for the entire system.
Nitrogen and compressed air in metalworking: the essentials
Nitrogen is used in laser cutting because it is an inert gas: by replacing oxygen in the cutting zone, it prevents oxidation of the heated metal. This produces clean, precise, oxidation-free edges, ideal for metal components with high aesthetic and technical standards, such as those in air handling units.
Electrostatic painting requires dry compressed air free of oils and particles. The air is treated by multi-stage drying and filtration, in compliance with standards such as ISO 8573, to prevent contaminants from reaching the part and compromising the finish.
Moisture and oil carried by compressed air prevent proper coating adhesion and cause defects such as cratering, delamination, and loss of durability. Eliminating them at the source is essential for uniform, durable painting.
PSA (Pressure Swing Adsorption) is a technology that separates nitrogen from ambient air on-site, from compressed air. It enables the production of high-purity nitrogen on location, continuously and on demand, without depending on cylinders or external deliveries.
Concentrating both systems with a single technical partner simplifies design, installation, and maintenance, ensures compatibility between solutions, and guarantees a single point of responsibility for gas and air quality throughout production.
